[Ashutosh, 00:00:35.88]
Shastras advise us to be dasa-dasa-anudasa. And also we heard that dasya-rasa is the beginning rasa or the basic rasa in the progression. Should we try to aspire for something higher or should we carefully stay in our lower position in our service.
[Goswami Mj, 00:01:05.82]
Well, I believe that's answered by Raghunath Das Goswami in his Vilapa-kusumanjali.
[Goswami Mj, 00:01:21.58]
dasyayate namo raso 'stu raso 'stu satyam,
sa kayame namo stu namo stu nityam
[Goswami Mj, 00:01:36.68]
That in Srila Guru Maharaj's words: He doesn't want to enter any higher plane if there is no superior servitor there.
[Goswami Mj, 00:02:02.99]
But Guru Maharaj gives the example of passport and visa.
[Goswami Mj, 00:02:12.41]
Passport is a general thing but to enter any particular country you need to get a visa.
[Goswami Mj, 00:02:24.28]
And that means: they determine that your entrance there is of their interest.
[Goswami Mj, 00:02:41.26]
So to enter the higher plane of service, there has to be some genuine necessity there, it's not out of curiosity or wishful thinking.
[Goswami Mj, 00:03:05.87]
So although Raghunath Das Goswami is the prayojan-tattva-acharya in the Rupanuga line which means madhura-rasa, he's saying, «My focus will be on dasyam, the least service».
[Goswami Mj, 00:03:40.41]
But really from another point of view, dasyam, servitorship, that's the basis of all of this, that's service, seva.
[Goswami Mj, 00:03:56.19]
So what to speak of madhura-rasa, he is saying sakhyam, more familiar, intimate type service, that to me — namo 'stu namo 'stu nityam — that I keep above as the worshipable plane that I'm content to serve one step below.
[Goswami Mj, 00:04:38.02]
dasa gopi-bhartuh pada-kamalayor dasa-dasaanudasah
(Padyavali, 74; Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya-lila, 13.80)
[Goswami Mj, 00:04:44.87]
Different expression. It's not only a recommendation, but, according to Srila Guru Maharaj, it's reality.
[Goswami Mj, 00:05:07.06]
There is a hierarchy of servitors.
[Goswami Mj, 00:05:10.81]
Lalita, Visakha, Rupa, Rati, etc... down to our Gurudev.
[Goswami Mj, 00:05:24.06]
So the reality of this situation is to aspire to be the servant of the servant of the servant, etc.
[Goswami Mj, 00:05:39.69]
So someone may be called into more intimate service out of a genuine necessity.
[Goswami Mj, 00:05:53.41]
And in Yoga-maya's recognition that they're qualified to render that service.
[Goswami Mj, 00:06:08.24]
But on the practical level Srila Saraswati Thakur's motto is
[Goswami Mj, 00:06:15.12]
pujala raga-path gaurava-bhange,
matala sadhu-jana visaya range
[Goswami Mj, 00:06:20.09]
That raga-path, that means path of raga-marg, that shall remain above as worshipable and from this plane we'll, under the guidance of Guru, vaisnav, sadhu-shastra, try and serve that plane.
[Goswami Mj, 00:06:59.32]
And we say that this is not something simply recommended for neophytes, but this expression from none less than Raghunath Das Goswami, prayojan-tattva-acharya, means he's indicating utimately what is our necessity.
[Goswami Mj, 00:07:19.35]
It's from no less than Raghunath Das Goswami.
[Ashutosh, 00:07:56.01]
(Question from Vishvapati Prabhu:) If Gurudev is coming in one's dreams and helps to understand some things. Is it reality or mind's speculations?
[Goswami Mj, 00:08:03.47]
It could be one or the other.
[Goswami Mj, 00:08:09.30]
If what is... the transaction of the dream is aligned with sadhu, shastra, guru, vaisnava, then we can accept it has some validity.
[Goswami Mj, 00:08:40.67]
But if something is expressed that is not aligned with that, or in fact is antithetical to that, it should be dismissed as the workings of the mind.
